Daniel van Pel, Master’s student in Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU / e – NL), has conducted research into personalized auditory experiences of people with dementia as part of his graduation assignment. Nature For Health was the client for this unique research. Daniel van Pel has designed a “soundscape pillow” with which people with dementia can experience sounds of nature. The sounds match the personal preference of someone. To check the personal preference, Van Pel has made a design for an app. Hearing personalized nature sounds is experienced as pleasant by people with dementia. It can help to reduce agitation and anxiety with them, also when moving to a care institution.
